Mogalakwena Selective Blasting Trial - Early field application yields success
With support from Anglo American Platinum, CRC ORE has been trialling Selective Blasting technology at the Mogalakwena platinum mine in South Africa.
Blast patterns were developed to concentrate chemical energy from the blast into areas of high grade ore, partitioning the ore body in such a way that high grade ore reported to fines while waste rock remained in large fragments. This method dramatically reduces energy consumption in milling, and early testing indicates the trial may have improved the head grade through the mill by as much as 2.5 times.
