Geoff Oldroyd - TAP ChairmanGeoff Oldroyd is a mining engineer whose career has encompassed research, mine management, projects, consulting and company directorship. His experience has been in the coal, industrial minerals, metals and energy industries in Australia and Europe. Since 1996 he has been the Principal of an independent mining and mineral resources consultancy, GC Oldroyd & Associates, and since 2007 he has served as Alternate Director on the Board of Coal & Allied Industries Ltd. Geoff is a past chairman of the Australian Coal Association Research Committee. He has a PhD and is a Chartered Engineer.

Dan AlexanderDan Alexander is CEO of JKTech and specialises in flotation modelling with extensive experience managing technical projects with Kambalda Nickel Operations. He has worked as a metallurgist at the WMC Ltd Kambalda Nickel and Mt Magnet Gold operations, before undertaking his PhD at JKMRC between 1995 and 1997. In 1997 he returned to WMC Ltd as technical superintendent of the Kambalda Operation and continued his research part time until its completion in 2007. Dan has developed steady state models of flotation plants both in Australia and overseas and was Operations Manager for JKTech until his appointment to CEO in 2010.

Professor Alan ByeProfessor Alan Bye is the CEO of the Cooperative Research Centre for Optimising Resource Extraction. In his prior post, Alan was director of the W H Bryan Mining and Geology Research Centre at the Sustainable Minerals Institute (University of Queensland). The BRC’s research excellence is recognized in the fields of Mass Mining, blasting engineering and Geology-Mine-Plant integration. Alan was previously involved with Anglo American for over 10 years and has held a range of cross-discipline positions in the areas of geology, geotechnical engineering, mine to mill, blasting engineering and mining manager.

Bruce GemmellBruce Gemmell is the Deputy Director of the world-leading Centre for Ore Deposits Research (CODES) and the Head of the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Tasmania. Following studies at the University of British Columbia and Dartmouth College, his early research was focused on the trace metal geochemistry of volcanic gases from active volcanoes in Central America. Bruce gained extensive experience across a wide range of ore deposit types, and more recently he and his students have conducted research on base and precious metal vein systems in Indonesia and South America. Bruce has supervised over 50 M.Sc. and Ph.D. students and published over 60 refereed papers in international journals. He has also been a member of the editorial boards of both Mineralium Deposita andEconomic Geology.

Geoff GaultProfessor Geoff Gault is the Director of the Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (JKMRC) and has over 30 years experience in the minerals industry spanning, management, technical services and technology development. He has worked for companies in the USA, UK and Australia, including Kambalda Nickel Operations (WMC), AMDEL, Honeywell and Scantech, and has experience as a Director of a listed company.

Scott JacksonScott Jackson is director and principal consultant at Quantitative Group, with more than 20 years experience in mining and exploration geology. After initially working as a Project Geologist, Scott studied at the prestigious Paris School of Mines before returning to consult on due diligence projects across various commodities and environments. He hasparticular expertise in porphyry style Cu-Au deposits and sedimentary hosted base metal systems, as well as all types of gold systems.

Erhan KozanProfessor Kozan is the leader of the Operations Research Group in the Mathematical Sciences Discipline at Queensland University of Technology, Australia. He has had 38 years industrial, managerial, teaching and research experience in the areas of operations research and worked with the World Bank Group and the United Nations Development Program. Professor Kozan has acted as principal investigator for over 25 long-term industrial projects, and 18 competitive national and international research grants since 1996 in the areas of health, finance, metals, transportation, supply chains and logistics. He is the author of over 200 journal papers, conference papers and industrial reports, has supervised more than 35 postgraduate research students and is currently supervising three PhD students. He established the Operations Research Group - QUT in 1996 and is a former president of the Asia Pacific Industrial Engineering and Management Society (APIEMS) and Australian Society for Operations Research.

Neville PlintNeville joined Anglo American Platinum in 1996 and has held a variety of research and management positions focusing on metallurgy, geo-metallurgy, on-line analysis and process control. He has a PhD and an MBA (distinction) from the University of the Witwatersrand and is currently Head of Research and Development for Anglo American Platinum.

Lauren StaffordLauren Stafford is the Manager of Research and Utilisation at CRC ORE. In this role she is responsible for the research project management, communication and education and training activities of the Centre. Lauren was previously the Business Manager of the WH Bryan Mining and Geology Research Centre at Sustainable Minerals Institute where she played a key role in the establishment of CRC ORE. Lauren holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Hons) and a Bachelor of Education from The University of Queensland.

Wayne StangeWayne has 25 years of experience in research and technical and management consulting to blue-chip clients such as BHP Billiton, Anglo American, Rio Tinto, Alcoa, Energy Australia and Thiess. His background in management consulting includes senior roles with Accenture and Deloitte, where he led strategy and systems implementation engagements. In March 2010 he joined minerals industry research project broker AMIRA International as Managing Director. Wayne has a B.Sc. (Eng), M.Sc (Eng), PhD and MBA from Wits University in Johannesburg where he graduated top of class, and has published more than 50 papers.

Dylan WebbDylan Webb is Director of Strategic Development at CAE Mining and has extensive experience across both the mining and financial services industries. Dylan worked with WMC’s Olympic Dam project managing and negotiating large drill consumables and explosives contracts, before moving to the UK to join Merrill Corporation. As costing manager he was responsible for setting up project cost tracking and invoicing systems for a multi-million dollar business start-up, gaining valuable exposure drafting regulatory documentation for annual reports, initial public offerings, and mergers and acquisitions. Between 2001 and 2010 Dylan provided technical consultation with GijimaAst, becoming managing director of the group’s Australian operations. In his position at CAE Mining, Dylan is responsible for developing new lines of business in the mining group, leveraging the extensive capabilities and technology in CAE in the areas of simulation, remote operations and high level consulting and training services.

David WhittleDavid Whittle is Senior Manager - Planning Leadership Program (Resource and Business Optimisation) at BHP Billiton, specialising in strategic mine planning and optimisation. David has contributed extensively to research on probability and decision making in mine optimisation, conducted short courses in Australia, USA, Canada and Chile, and guest lectured at the University of British Columbia.
