Resources Statement welcomed

The Cooperative Research Centre for Optimising Resource Extraction (CRC ORE) has welcomed the release of the National Resources Statement.

National Resources Statement coverReleased during Minerals Week 2019, the Statement, according to the Australian Government, sets out a blueprint for a collaborative, long-term reform agenda to ensure Australia has the world’s most advanced, innovative and successful resources sector.

CRC ORE works closely with the government, mining companies, mining equipment and technology suppliers, and research organisations. It aims to transform the minerals sector by deploying innovative world-class technology to effect a step change in value across the whole-of-mine system.

CRC ORE Chief Executive Officer Ben Adair said the Statement is a clear commitment to collaborative innovation for the betterment of the mining industry and the benefit of the Australian economy.

“The content of the Statement shows that Australia is serious about the technological advancement of the mining industry, particularly through cooperative efforts,” Dr Adair said.

“It is through collaborative innovation that we have been able to develop cutting edge solutions such as Grade Engineering and the Integrated Extraction Simulator.”

Grade Engineering is an innovative approach to the early separation of ore from waste material. It is working to minimise impacts of declining grades and productivity in the Australian minerals sector.

The Integration Extraction Simulator is a CRC ORE developed cloud-based platform designed to predict and optimise blasting and mineral processing performance. It delivers productivity breakthroughs and new thinking in mining and metallurgical modelling by creating a truly integrated virtual mining value chain.

Dr Adair was particularly encouraged by key Statement priority – ‘better focus the sector’s innovation, research and development on long-term, sectoral growth’.

“The work of our participants and staff is at the forefront of innovation, and our Australian developed solutions are in demand throughout the world,” he said.

“We look forward to continuing our work with stakeholders, including the Australian Government, to deliver upon our research aims and the priorities of the National Resources Statement.”

CRC ORE’s research projects investigate all elements of the mining process, seeking opportunities to optimise the system through better understanding of the processes and the synergies between processes. This includes ore body characterisation, geometallurgy, blasting, comminution, mine planning and economic evaluation.
