New GE.View Tool

A new online tool, GE.View, is giving the Western Australian minerals industry the power to assess and rank opportunities for increased productivity via application of Grade Engineering® on a deposit-by-deposit basis from their own or public domain data.

GEView news photo 2018The development of the innovative tool was led by the Cooperative Research Centre for Optimising Resource Extraction (CRC ORE). It was developed with support from the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia.

The tool is being made freely available to the industry by CRC ORE as part of its commitment to delivering significant economic opportunities for the Australian minerals industry.

According to CRC ORE’s CEO, Dr Ben Adair, the idea for the tool started through CRC ORE making use of the Western Australian Government’s data-rich GeoVIEW.WA database. The GIS-based system is world class and provides a comprehensive collection of geological data from historical and active mines and exploration targets in Western Australia. It can be used to query and visualise geology and resource-related data sets including drill holes and assay information.

“CRC ORE recognised the potential of this extensive database and focused on increasing the value of the collection by applying Grade Engineering analytical tools to add an extra dimension,” says Dr Adair.

“Once data is extracted, GE.View generates a preliminary analysis of predictive measures for modelling of grade heterogeneity. From this, productivity-enhancing Grade Engineering opportunities can be identified,” he says.

Some of the key features of GE.View include:

  • Initial data evaluation and viewing of GeoVIEW.WA information in the context of extracting value through Grade Engineering.
  • Self-evaluation using a sites’ own data for preliminary Grade Engineering techniques.
  • Highlighting the most appropriate Grade Engineering coarse separation lever(s) on a deposit-by-deposit basis.

It is an interactive tool for introducing the Grade Engineering concept and communicating the possibilities of its application at a particular site in a more meaningful way. It targets the opportunity for individuals or organisations to review deposits such as stalled projects, operations on care and maintenance, or aging brownfields deposits under a new evaluation lens to enhance their economic drivers.

The new portal is a key component of CRC ORE’s engagement with the Western Australian mining industry. “GE.View helps extends the breadth of key CRC ORE research, directly to Australian mine sites,” says Dr Adair. “Having access to such a practical assessment tool will help demonstrate the potential value of productivity gains through the Grade Engineering approach. Grade Engineering opportunities identified through the assessment can be further developed via the newly announced Kalgoorlie-Boulder Mining Innovation Hub,” he says.
